Pregnancy and weight gain are the two major causes for stretch marks. When your skin is stretched to maximum capacity, your skin’s elastic fibers and collagen breaks down and the ruptured middle layer tissue can then be seen through the thinned outer layer of skin. Carol Garber, Ph.D. from Brown University, says that leg raises work wonders. “Don’t just jerk your leg up in the air and let it fall back down. You can be injured if you raise it too quickly. Instead, raise and lower each leg in a slow, controlled motion.”

She advises that stretch mark recovery begins with eight to ten raises on each side at least three times a week, gradually working to twenty.

She adds that inner thigh exercises, which are leg raises with bent knees, bottom leg raises seated on a chair and butt firming, by lifting your legs from push up position, are also good at-home exercises for stretch marks reduction.

Effective Natural Remedies for Stretch Marks

Massaging your body with essential oils is one of the more pleasant home remedies for stretch marks. You do not have to spend a fortune on anti stretch mark cream. Instead, you can make your own home solution out of:

  • One ounce of carrier oil such as avocado, sweet almond or jojoba
  • Seven drops of lavender essential oil
  • Five drops of chamomile essential oil

Alternatively, you can make a solution out of –

  • 1/2-cup virgin olive oil
  • 1/4-cup aloe vera gel
  • Liquid from six vitamin E capsules
  • Liquid from four vitamin A capsules

Once you have combined the ingredients in a blender, you can pour the mixture into a jar and store it in the fridge.

If this sounds like too much work, then you can apply cocoa butter or elastin cream all over your body twice a day, which is said to be one of the primary defenses against pregnancy stretch marks.

Remember that stretch marks are nothing more than cosmetically unpleasant scars. Since there is no guaranteed treatment for stretch marks, home remedies may be the most logical move.

Doctors recommend the same things to treat not only the marks, but also your overall fitness as well, such as exercise, a balanced diet and drinking eight glasses of water a day for skin nourishment.

You are not alone with your stretch marks, which is one of the most widespread scars of all. Understand that over time they will become less noticeable, especially if you work toward your fitness goals.
